U.S. Marine Corps Rifle, 5.56MM, M16A2 Technical Manual

This should be the first book that anyone even so much as interested in the AR15/M16 weapons platform firearms should buy.  Written so that virtually anyone can understand it, with pictures of virtually every step for those that can't, this book covers completely detail stripping the AR15 down to every nut, bolt, pin, and screw and how to reassemble these parts back into a working firearm.

Of equal importance, this book includes the technical specifications for the weapons system in terms of torque requirements for the barrel nut, castle nut, carrier key screws, etc.

Green Eyes and Black Rifles: Warriors Guide to the Combat Carbine by: Kyle Lamb

This book is an excellent resource in terms of  methodology  and techniques for both basic weapon manipulations  (like loading, reloads, transitions, etc.) as well as various shooting positions both conventional (standing, prone, shooting on the move) and unconventional (urban prone, rollover prone, etc.).  There is also a section in weapon maintenance and one on gear selection that covers optics, slings, and the like.
